The days shorten, the sun doesn’t grace us with its presence at morning practice, and school rages in full force. The only thing this can mean is that the Cross Country season is creeping towards the end…towards the championship races.
Our team has been performing well. At Bob Firman almost all of our runners raced the best of the season. Our varsity boys worked as a team and saw where they needed to go for upcoming races. Both of our JV teams ran exceptionally well and placed very high. Then, yesterday at Park City, our teams stepped it up yet another step. Our boys ran well, pushing each other and remembering what we need to do to run as a team. The boys ended up in seventh by our 6th runner. The girls also had an amazing day, with Jacqueline winning the race and Caroline taking second. In addition to individuals placing well, the team took first!
After these last two weekends our team is looking forward to representing our school at the Region and State Championships. It’s time for us to come together and do what we need to in order to place where we need to be. I encourage the entire team to be visualizing their race, eating well, keeping school work in check, and getting to bed early. Remember, Friday’s forecast is EAGLE WEATHER!

It seems once again that most of our season has blown by in a blur. It seems only yesterday when we were having summer practices. But looking back I realize how much we all have improved and how far we’ve come from where we started. Today, we stepped it up, took a chance, and it worked. I saw people have the best races of their lives so far and our team work together in ways I’d have never thought possible. We kept our heads in the race and it worked. We walked away from today with PR’s, smiles, and, best of all, TWO Region Championships.
Our girls had an amazing race with Jacqueline finishing first, Rebekah finishing second, Rachel finishing fourth, and Natalie finishing fifth with the rest of the team close behind. We had Kat win the JV race. On the boys side we had Bret finish fourth, Jess finish fifth, and Ian was seventh, with all seven finishing in the top 18. Our JV also had a good race with Cam taking fourth.
Overall it was a great day for our team; we all had fun and ran our hardest. Now it’s time to get ready for State, knowing that we have it what it takes. Remember, we have what it takes, and it’s EAGLE WEATHER!!!

I’m back in town and ready to get back to work! We’ll meet at my house on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. If you want to do your best this season there is still time to benefit from these workouts. BTW, if you are looking for a fun 5k race on the 4th, I suggest the one at the East Millcreek Recreation Center on Evergreen.

It starts at Wasatch Junior and passes in front of Skyline on the way out and on the way back. It is a fun race with tons of prizes for age group winners and a prize drawing after the race. Check out www.filltheark5k.org for details.
