Hesitant Racing
After talking with several of my teammates, I realize the majority of us are feeling it right now, like we’re stuck in a slump and our shoes are filled with mud. I saw a lot of distressful faces on the bus ride home from UVU today. So many of use are feeling frustrated! After a good week of workouts we can’t seem to find the tangible results we want. So why is it we’re having these lucrative workouts and then in our races we’re hesitant? Are we scared? Do we think if we go all out in the race and don’t reach our goals we’ve failed? In a workout if you give it everything and die no one cares, so we do. I watch everyone day after day drain everything they have into practice. But when we get on that starting line we doubt our selves. We think, “if I stay with that person I might die!” It’s risky, I understand. But is it worth it? To go all out and come up short is better than to give half and come in safe. I will always respect a runner who goes out too fast over one that finishes too strong.
Mental blocks (whatever kind you have) are something that come with running, let’s learn from our racing experiences, climb the hill and hose the mud out of our shoes. Region is in a week, good news is we are physically ready, we just have to want it and know we can achieve it.
You’re all remarkable and inspire me!
